Dip in engagement, reach, etc?

Hi everyone! I noticed that in August I had great reach across the board (I manage 6 different social media pages) on Instagram and last month I took a big dip and it’s bleeding into this month as well. I run pages that are more medical like eye doctors, urgent care, etc. I was wondering if people have deactivated due to the political climate in the U.S. since September, but wondering if its just me...

I don’t have any quantitative data to back this up, but there’s been a ton of conversations on LinkedIn about engagement tanking across the board. We’ve definitely seen our Instagram decline (from getting 100s of like to barely hitting 50). We had thought initially it was because we were being ‘punished’ for stopping ads on Meta, but it seems to be wider than that.

There’s a few hypotheses circulating on whats happening:

  • Just make better content and more videos and hop on trends (terrible advice)
  • People are exhausted and burned out and taking more breaks from social (probably true)
  • The market is saturated and its hard to get noticed (also probably true to some extent, but people have been saying this for years)
  • The algorithm has shifted and is prioritizing trending/big creators (not true according to IG, but you never know, and honestly this resonates a little with me as I’m not seeing a lot of my fav creators anymore in my feed)
