Instagram Reel Cover Image Glitch - Anyone else?

Hi Everyone! I am going a bit nuts with a glitch that is happening on my brand’s Instagram account and I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced this as well. When I am in the “Edit Cover” area of my reel, and I add an image from my camera roll, it appears perfectly on the “Cover” tab. When I navigate to the “Profile Grid” tab, however, the image is zoomed in and I am not able to get the full image to display no matter how much I pinch and drag it around.

It has happened to every reel since the end of December when I did purposely zoom an image in for a cover of a reel and the app decided that all future reels and cover images will match this one-time-only art direction. (If I go back to the reel in question where I zoomed the cover image in on purpose, I am not able to zoom the image out as it is also stuck on the zoomed (doomed) state).

I would be so grateful if anyone has experienced the same issue and can offer some tips for correcting it!

Hi, @caitlin.ronda! I haven’t had this happen, but agree with your guess about it being connected to the app updates to the grid layouts, as they tend to have some problems that need time to be worked out.

If you haven’t already, go back to that initial post and change it so that one is no longer zoomed in and see if that impacts reels and cover images after that. Additionally, while it’s a manual effort, you can go in and adjust how the image appears for each of your reels by pressing and holding down on the reel that you what to adjust the cover image for, but if you find it isn’t allowing for the whole image to fit it may be connected to the initial size of the one being used.

When all else fails, you could try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, to see if that impacts it, too.

I wanted to share an update that my feed updated to the new grid about a week after this was posted so I have a strong feeling that this glitch was somehow tied to these app updates!

I’ve had the issue, where if I try to edit a Reels cover photo after the initial post. It takes a while for it to load, and then it doesn’t allow me to edit it. This has been on-going for a while, and I think there are still a lot of glitches surrounding that part of Reels. Even with updating my app and reinstalling it, I still haven’t seen a solution. I don’t have a solution for you either, but at least you know it’s not just you.
