Happy Friday, Arboretum Members! Welcome to a new edition of This Week in Social!

You'll be seeing some changes coming to The Arboretum, and we're starting today by shifting how we share what's caught our eye each week. We believe in the power of social, and know that the stories that catch one person's attention may be completely missed in another's. So we invite you to share any stories of social media mastery (or mayhem) that caught your attention recently.

Please use this thread to let us know which news stories or social media strategies sparked your curiosity or made you stop and think. Which ones made you cheer and or caused a moment of pause. We’d love to hear what stood out to you and why.

This isn’t a news article, but who else has has a fully AI job interview???? I just completed my first fully AI job interview. The recording of it will go straight to the hiring manager. I have to say, it was really cool! I can only imagine how much time it saves HR to have AI handle the first screening interview! Plus, the applicant is able to complete the interview any time that is convenient for them. Win/win, right? And it wasn't just AI asking me questions and recording my answers, it even asked me follow up questions to my answers and recapped what I said as we went. Frankly, super impressed and shocked that this was my first AI interview! I have no idea why more companies are not using this for the first screening interview! That being said, I know the fear around replacing “people.” I totally think this was an efficiency for their HR, not a “replacement.” I did have a follow up phone interview with the HR person and we were able to focus on my questions for them and not questions about my background (which had already been covered on the AI interview). This was how they were able to get more of a feel for “me.” I’m curious about other people’s thoughts on this? So far, I’ve had numerous digitally recorded first screening interviews, but not fully AI like this one was. What are your experiences? (I know this is more of a LinkedIn question and not 100% social media, but still curious!)

💸 Big changes are on the horizon: Washington State’s new digital ads tax takes effect October 1, but many details on how it will be implemented are still unclear. Agencies and advertisers are left with tricky questions around compliance and reporting, especially as digital services (e.g. SEO, graphic design, campaign planning, site traffic analysis, etc.) get pulled into the mix. With states like California, New York, and Virginia proposing similar taxes, a lot of people are watching to see how this plays out. The ripple effects could change digital advertising strategies (and budgets!) across the country.

Oh wow @mary, an AI interview sounds like an interesting experience. I do love the convenience of recording anytime though.

@Laura Porcincula Yes!!! I’ve had numerous interviews where I just recorded an answer to a question - and it wasn’t really “AI” - but this was fully AI. It asked me the questions (wasn’t just on the screen), processed my verbal answers, and then either moved on or asked me follow up questions depending upon what I said. It also recapped what I said. I was frankly fascinated by it! I was also given a custom ChatGPT by one company that had a goal of helping me prepare for my interview with the company. That was also super interesting! Frankly, I still have the link and have used it to prepare for interviews at other companies too. SHHHHH! 😉

What the U.S. Open did for the past few weeks is my new favorite influencer marketing case study. They totally reframed their value proposition. They’re not just showcasing tennis to tennis fans, they’re selling culture, and leaning into pop culture to pull in casual fans who don’t follow the tour day-to-day. It’s all orchestrated for social and they’re measuring it. Celebrities have become an asset to market! This article just pulled back the curtains and impressed:

@lisa.rodrigo I definitely spotted all of the celebrities at the US Open! I’m not sure what that has to do with AI Job Interviews though???? Please explain the correlation! Thank you!

@lisa.rodrigo you know I love when passions collide! Sports, pop culture, and social trends - oh my! Spotting celebrities in the crowd is half the fun and I love how they are so intentional in the way they build their plan around feeding that conversation.

@mary, I think this is @lisa.rodrigo’s favorite story of the week.

Instagram is testing the ability to add links to posts!!!! It’s a wild dream we all had and now it may actually become a reality. There’s a lot of mixed feelings on it, mainly because it seemed to be the last place to be free of link spam, but also joy for being able to get people the info they need.

Similar to @mary’s AI interview experience above, I just read that LinkedIn just added AI custom mock interviews for premium subscribers. For those of you who are premium subscribers, let me know if you try this and what you think? I’m curious!
