Question

What's the best April Fool's social media post or campaign you've seen today?

Holidays are often some of the best times to discover fun and inventive ideas. I’m sure that’s no less true with April Fool’s Day.

Gaming accessory company, Razer, posted a “brainrot” AI-powered translation device ad, and it seemed pretty clever and on-point to me. It’s also gotten a lot of traction across different media, such as Facebook, X, and elsewhere.

What’s the best April Fool’s social media post/s you’ve found?

The best ones are the ones you don’t realize are an April fools joke! I saw Emo Night Brooklyn post that they’re going to start having their concerts be seating room only and I was genuinely shocked for a second. I had no clue how a club vibe was going to be seating room only…. then remembered it was April Fools Day! It’s so minor but they really got me.

I like this one, it’s a good fit. My company didn’t post an April Fools prank, but I was fooled for a moment by a Barstool Sports account posting that my beloved Montana State Bobcats would be moving from the Big Sky conference to the Mountain West! It was a funny play on a common conversation about which teams should be elevated out of the FCS.

Loved this post from the City of Tampa account! With the egg shortage, the Mayor is featured in a video sharing a proclamation banning the traditional dyeing and hiding of Easter eggs. She instead shares that the city will be distributing potato decorating kits and hosting a “Spud Search.”

Many of the early comments on the video don’t realize it’s an April Fools joke - well done to this team!

@madison.skipper I agree that some of the best April Fool’s campaigns are so clever, so tongue-in-cheek, they may not even be picked up right away. Some of the other noteworthy campaigns are over the top and embracing the fun, like the Razer post I mentioned.

Razer Skibidi is my life with pre-teens in the house. Thanks for sharing @MisterP, I got a good laugh from that one.

There have been so many good ones this year!! Duolingo’s was of course over the top and amazing as always! https://www.instagram.com/p/DH6BKqBxNWw/

I also loved Oura Ring’s new “Aura Ring”. As a kid I loved buying mood rings so I thought this one was so clever. Honestly if this ring was ever real I probably would buy it too 🤣 https://www.instagram.com/p/DH56UuGOfNE/?img_index=3

I absolutely love Nugget’s April Fools jokes (20252024, 2023), though I also always wish they were true. I think what makes them effective is that they are…

  1. Ridiculous and delightful, it’s always a good laugh.
  2. Totally on brand with being fun for kids and adults, but also just in general looks like them and fits their playful voice.
  3. Does no harm. You know its a joke, and even if you don’t immediately realize it, it doesn’t do hurt anyone (other than that a lot of people end up wanting the products, which is kind of a fun way to experiment with a new idea).

@kate.meyers emery I can’t help but wonder if some/how many April Fool’s campaigns were so effective, brands converted the idea from a gag into an actual product or service.

@MisterP from what I remember, Nugget did make their 2023 April Fool’s joke into a real product for a short period because demand was so high!

One of the funniest April Fool’s posts I saw this year was from a food brand that said they were releasing toothpaste-flavored ice cream. The video looked so real, and they even had fake customer reviews saying things like “It’s minty fresh… but in a weird way.” It totally got me at first until I saw the date!

Another one that made me laugh was a fake feature update from a fitness app that said it would now burn calories just by watching workout videos without moving. If only that were true!

I always check to see if language apps do anything fun too. Duolingo has pulled some great April Fool’s pranks in the past, like making Duo the owl even bossier. Some people also like to play around with duolingo mod ipa to explore extra or silly features that aren’t in the normal app. It’s kind of like joining in on the fun in your own way.

April 1st is always full of surprises—I love seeing how creative people get! 😄
