Question

Onboarding someone new to healthcare

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

For any teams who have added someone to their team from outside the healthcare industry, can you speak to me about resources to help them acclimate to healthcare social media?

I know about SHSMD’s intro to healthcare series but that will be too late.

Hey Robbie! Jamie and I can share some resources with you from our insights blog. Would also love to know about any other resources shared with you! Thanks!

@robbie.schneider What role will they have, and what is their past experience? The biggest thing to make them aware of would be any laws that govern what you post online. Depending on where you are within the healthcare industry, you may or may not have content that those laws would heavily impact. I’ve found that the core competencies of a social media manager are basically the same across different industries. I see more differences between B2B & B2C, so you may need to give them resources around that if they are coming to you from the other side of that equation. Regardless, I would have them spend most of their time learning about your brand and voice.

I’d highly recommend a HIPAA certification if they don’t already have one! My agency specializes in healthcare marketing and we’re all required to be certified. https://www.hipaatraining.com/

I found a few courses online that might be good fits:

I’d also recommend looking into LinkedIn Learning if you have an active subscription! https://www.linkedin.com/learning/

Former journalist with some social media experience from that perspective.
