Hi all!

I’ve seen a lot of mixed answers for this question, and I’d love to have some more insight. Does it really matter who initiates a collab post?
Our channel works with partners that have both larger and smaller followings than us. We want to make sure that we’re utilizing our collab feature on Instagram in the most efficient way possible. Should the account with the larger following initiate the collab? Or, should it depend on who is the original owner of the content?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, whoever initiates the collaborative post is the primary creator. That means they control deletion, editing, and are listed first. They also get more insights than the secondary organization.

But it doesn’t matter in terms of audience reach. So if your org is smaller, having them be the secondary won’t change reach. It also doesn’t matter if you have a good relationship with strong communication between your orgs and are happy to share analytics, editing power, etc.

I don’t think there’s a definitive answer on who should initiate. I’ve seen opinions on either side having the advantage. But the main thing we consider is as the initiator you have access to all the stats, where as the people that accept the collab don’t get any (which is annoying)
