Facebook Bots

Just dealt with a terrible bout of bots attacking one of my client’s pages. We were running an engagement-based giveaway and bots started responding to comments as my client profile (imposters, obvi) and requesting bank info, which some people actually gave away. 


We had included how we would contact winners in the original post, and explicitly said we would DM winners, but people still fell prey to scams. 
 

Does anyone have ideas on how to keep bots from a page? We instituted a “must follow for 24 hours” before commenting rule on the page, but that's the only tactic we have found thus far.

I have yet to figure out a way to stop them completely, but I have a long list of words/phrases that hide the comments immediately in my Sprout automated rules and it’s been helping.

Hi, do you know if that hides the comments in Facebook as well or just from the Sprout inbox?

I have endless struggles with “hello my dear, can I be your friend” type creepy bot messages, but I’ve never been sure if setting up auto-hiding in Sprout also protects my followers on FB itself from those messages.

you can use the automation tools within Facebook to GREAT effect for this purpose.

I’ve been having this issue as well! It seems like in the last year, the bots have gotten out of control. I set up moderation assist within Facebook, and that’s been hiding any comments with links, suspicious profiles, etc. https://www.facebook.com/help/1011133123133742 

I then delete and ban them through Sprout, however I’m going to look into setting up a rule within Sprout. I feel like most of my time in the Smart Inbox lately has been managing all the bot comments.

Same here. Just popped in here to ask a question about using automated rules to hide a new version of spam we’re getting. Il try your native app rules first, but if anyone has ideas, let me know! This bot changes the phrase and emojis and only posts twice so it avoids my current spam filters set up.
