Any tips on creating a portfolio for social media work?

Hi everyone,

My name is Anna and I’m a recent college graduate working in my first full-time job as a social media specialist. As I create more social media content, I’m wondering whether I should put together a portfolio of my work to share with future employers or if that’s only helpful for freelancers. If it is beneficial for me, then what should a portfolio look like, and how should I go about sharing one if it’s not specifically requested by the employer?

If you have portfolios, I’d love to hear what you include in yours! Thanks!

I use Gondola, which allows me to track posts that I’ve worked on for brands and provides collective analytics on those that I’ve contributed to: https://gondola.cc/

I think if you know you are not planning on staying with the company you are with right now. You need to keep weekly reporting to make sure you can show that growth or creative for later employers.

You can keep a running Slides doc - In this you can have screenshots of posting, along with the captions and then add in all the metrics that same with this post to keep track of this long term to eventually give to a future employee to see how you do.

Reporting will be huge to see the growth that you can bring to a company and where you can take it.

That’s very helpful, thank you!

Would love to revive this thread. I recently updated my portfolio, which is mostly content based, but curious to know how people have approached a portfolio for social media manager roles.

Mine is online at travissandoval.com. I also have a PDF version that goes a bit deeper on social metrics.
