How are you combating job application answers written by AI?

Over the past couple of years, my agency has seen an increasing amount of our job applicants just copying and pasting answers written by AI. From technical questions, to “Why do you want to work with us?” and it’s really clogging up our hiring workflow with unqualified and frankly annoying applicants.

Is your agency facing this, and do you have any suggestions for combating it?

My first idea is to require they submit a video or voice note answering one of the questions, but I know that could drive away more private or shy applicants.

TIA!

that’s a tough one… for the video idea, I could see folks just reading their ChatGPT answers ;) so not sure that’s going to solve anything. Do you ask them not to use AI when submitting an application?

Some places are asking folks to be transparent about their use of AI or are making it clear they’ll only allow AI for certain parts of the process but not others. Maybe you could warn folks it isn’t allowed for certain answers and that you’ll check it.

Its a tough thing, because companies are using AI to select candidates, so using AI can give you a leg up in getting picked.
