Changing Company Logos for Pride Month and other events

Hello, I work for a mid-sized B2B technology company based in San Francisco and we were curious what other brands were doing with Pride Month coming up in June. Does your brand change your logos to rainbow, or do you avoid that because of rainbow-washing. What else does your brand/company do to celebrate Pride?

Similarly, has your company ever changed your logo for anything else other than Pride Month (e.g. AAPI Month, Veteran’s Day, etc.).

Would love to hear others’ thoughts on this.

@rosemnguyen appreciate you bringing this up! I wanted to share a similar post from @jill.lim around Pride too in case it sparked any conversation.

@thematthorne, @Anna Laura McGranahan, @katie.murphy, and @scotty.strehlow tagging y’all in case you have additional thoughts here!

Such a great question! I’ve never worked for a company that changed out logos for Pride, but I did have a few that did big Breast Cancer Awareness Month pushes when I worked in healthcare. I swapped out “pink” logos and we ran BCAM messaging all month long.

For any awareness dates, particularly Pride, the question to ask is: how are we walking the walk? It’s only rainbow-washing if your company updates their profile and cover photos to rainbows, but doesn’t actually share any messaging or awareness around LGBTQ+ themes or employees.

Unless you have a dedicated content pillar for Pride Month messaging and awareness, I’d leave your logo as-is. 🏳️‍🌈 That said, SF has some amazing queer history and I bet there’s a lot you could do to elevate local voices and events.
