Is there a better alternative to Twitter than Mastodon i.e. with Twitter-like functionality and reach?

I’ve experimented with several sites billed as alternatives (Hive Social, Post, etc.) and personally think Mastodon is far and away the best. That said, it still needs considerably more users before I’ll bother creating an account for our organization and posting there!

We have found Mastodon to be the best alternative to Twitter for our client’s industry (Healthcare/Medical). However, the user base (on the Med-Mastodon server, at least) is nowhere near where it needs to be to generate any traction and compete with Twitter.
Hive Social, Post and Tribel were other platforms we tested, but found Mastodon was the most similar to Twitter and most appropriate for our client and their audience.
