Hello social media people,

I’ve been tasked with determining whether Whatsapp is something we should implement from higher-ups. Our networking association is focusing on global growth in the future, specifically in Latino America.

My question is, are there any associations on here that use Whatsapp? Most of our communication is around initiatives members can get involved with, renewals & conference announcements. Do I need to request additional budget for it?

(We have a community discussion board platform already & our member base is about 14k)

Thanks in advance!

We use WhatsApp Channels as a one-way broadcasting tool, rather than using WhatsApp messages to open up two-way conversations or group messaging. We just don’t have the bandwidth to manage and moderate that type of communication on WhatsApp. I run social media for a global service association, where a lot of our members use WhatsApp. The channel allows us to put out messaging one-way, and then our members can share out those messages in their own WhatsApp groups that they’ve created for their clubs or regions (which we don’t manage or oversee).

Hi Jacqui, I love this use case, thanks for sharing!

As a small team of one social media person, the thought of adding a channel is frankly superbly overwhelming, but using it as more of a one-way broadcast seems more doable. I’m guessing this is the basic mode for businesses on WhatsApp? I know there are a few different levels of business accounts.

Specifically the global reach is what I’ve been tasked with as a lot of our international members do use WhatsApp.
