Throughout my career, I have tried various ways to stay productive during the work day. I’ve found, at least for me, a combination of print and digital methods works best, especially for my role. I oversee marketing, communications, mergers and acquisitions, and creative, which means managing a few different teams and people. So, staying organized and productive is key to my every day responsibilities.
Prioritization: where does the project fall within department/company objectives and has the most visibility with the executive leadership team?
My team uses ClickUp for project management. We treat our team as an internal agency with the other departments as client. We meet weekly as a team to map out the planned and potentially unplanned work that each group is working on, how can we collaborate, and what is the timeline. All of this information helps prioritize our week.
Daily Check-Ins: pulse check on work in progress
Our department has borrowed some project management techniques from agile to hold ourselves accountable. We use ClickUp to narrow down the list of priorities from our Monday team meeting, check in on any unplanned work, and review what or who we are waiting on to complete any next steps.
Digital & Print Lists: each team member does a combination of the ClickUp list with a paper list to reflect on accomplishments
Again, each person is different, but many of my team members will take notes throughout the week on what has worked, what hasn’t worked, and then we reflect every Friday. This helps with productivity because each week we have an accomplishment. Making progress to a goal is a huge part of staying “in the zone” while at the office.
Some other items I have used in combination with the list above are:
- Focus mode in Microsoft
- Bookings feature in Microsoft
I hope this helps!
