As someone with ADHD, I have a lot of productivity tips, failures, and everything in-between. I can be sporadic, stuck in strategy, you name it. It’s easy to get overwhelmed in this profession, especially when you’re a social team of one (but still want to do the work of a team). I’ve kept journal, sticky notes, digital planners, physical planners, pomodoro timers...yeah. The biggest productivity tip I have is this:

  • Keep a list with 5 essentials for your brand.

What do I mean? I’m talking audience, color scheme, adjectives describing your brand - that kind of thing. You’re probably like me and have no trouble looking through analytics, learning about the “algorithm” for whatever platform, thinking about ways to repurpose content and make fresh, new ideas stick. But at the end of the day, come back to that list when you sit down to draft content. Have the strategy and all the fancy things you’ve thought of in the back of your head, but come back to that list. Keep it right in front of you when you draft. That’s it. That helps so much.

Don’t get lost in the sauce, friends. ✨

Prioritizing with focus (and on tougher days, even triaging) can help make a difference for staying on message, on brand. It’s a good tip, thank you!

Great tip!

Great tip! I think this would be really helpful for my team, and to maybe limit the amount of sticky notes on my desk.

I’m raising a kid with ADHD and have learned over the years some of his fidgets are quite useful for me too! Does anyone else have the mystical flow rings Sprout sent a few years back? 🌀 I roll those up and down my arms when I need a minute to reset. They’re quite fun to drop and watch them bounce into a pretty shape. Other fidgets just help me stay focused through meetings.

Love that you found a way to stick to your strategy’s true north. Way to go!

It’s way too easy to get lost in the sauce! I’m constantly having to ask myself, does this idea align with our mission and further our goals as an organization? So I think it would be really helpful to have an easily accessible list of essentials to serve as a reminder.

Agree! I’ve got a white board with the key ingredients of our brand soul scribbled on it. And about 8 colorful sticky notes around that with brilliant ideas that mesh with that but need a moment to simmer. I love your approach to keeping the focus where it needs to be rather than on the next passing fad.

Great tip. Those of us with ADHD often have the best intentions on finding new systems to help ourselves….but they often just turn into another thing we forget about once it stops being new and shiny.

Seriously! 🥲 It’s rough out there, but it’s nice to work with our brains sometimes.

This is a great point! Depending on desk space, I use an electronic writing board to notate important notes or I will try to use Windows Sticky Notes so it is always on my Desktop.
