With an April 5th U.S. TikTok ban deadline coming up, what's your strategy?

Forum|alt.badge.img+5

The next U.S. TikTok ban deadline is set for Saturday, April 5, 2025, when ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, must divest its U.S. operations by then. Do you think TikTok gets another extension, a sale will go through, or a ban will be made to stick?

With all that uncertainty around TikTok in the next week alone, do you have contingencies in place, regardless of whatever happens on the political/business side of things?

I feel like a “wait and see” approach may be the only way to go right now, while exploring alternatives to TikTok.

Great question, @MisterP. And you’re right, a wait + watch + stay agile approach is the key in this context! You may have missed seeing this, but here’s some guidance on the steps you can take right now in light of the potential US TikTok ban, along with some ongoing considerations for adjusting your social strategy. Hope it’s helpful!

I had missed that, but I’m glad the guidance is updated for March (especially as the TikTok situation is so fluid and shifting right now), @Gayatri Shukla. Thank you for linking to it!

I had downloaded all of our tiktok videos ahead of the last potential ban, I’ll save everything we’ve posted since and pin our video about where else to find us on social media!

Wait and see once again! We spent time exporting all of our videos before the ban in January and just did it again now. We’ll be privating our account before the next ban happens too, just incase some people can see our account and get upset they don’t get an answer.

@tori.zito I see some consensus gathering around the “wait and see” approach. Given the volatility of these sorts of developments in recent months, it makes sense.

Great question. Are POV is that our clients take a “wait and see” approach. We cover it more in a blog I wrote back. when the news first broke.

Part of the waiting and seeing? Seeing the possible bidders for the U.S. TikTok, who are emerging in force this week. Depending on who buys it, I feel that could shape how much disruption there is to the platform and services. Still in “watch and wait” mode, though.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now - the deadline for banning TikTok in the U.S. has been deferred another 75 days. Our team is closely monitoring the news and sharing updates here: Navigating the US TikTok ban: What brands need to know.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend scrolling through TikTok. :)

Thank you for the update, @Laura Porcincula! Hooray that worrying about this can be punted a bit further down the line, I guess — so this can go on the back burner for now!
