Managing Inactive Social Profiles?

Hey Healthcare Hub - hope you had a great weekend!

Wanted to bring to light the risk of inactive social profiles and best practices for how to audit and clean these up.I

I’ve been having conversations with Healthcare organizations that have dozens, if not hundreds, of social profiles out there they can’t manage or monitor anymore. Sometimes because they are not connected to a social media management platform or they don’t have the login information anymore.

Understanding there’s a security risk along with brand health + reputation on the line, how do folks go about resolving this? Please sound off with any tips or recommendations - if you have any first-hand experience dealing with this, we’d love to hear from you!

Hi Jeff!

My organization is taking on this huge process for us right now. Leadership started out creating a social media directory alongside auditing how active some social accounts are. They then asked for all login information to be stored in case of people leaving/security threats.

Every platform has been different and naturally there has been some pushback. For my smaller part in this bigger effort, we asked all of our account admins to report users and then we looked at engagement on the platforms then created a long term plan. We have started the process of consolidating which takes about a month for each page (archiving analytics, sending out messaging, deactivating). As this first one has happened, others are taking notice that they either need to ramp up content or go ahead and start phasing out their accounts.

In terms of accounts that you don’t have login access, I think our social + legal teams have been contacting the platform’s support to help resolve. That is definitely the trickiest part!

This is such an interesting process, @Courtney Cole! I love the idea of the social media directory not just for this purpose but also for collaboration purposes among different social and comms teams. Thank you for sharing!
